the ER-I-EE was risin

This was one of my best received images on NightCafe. The theme was "Canal Towns" and the nearest Canal Town to me was Tonawanda NY where the Erie Canal met the Niagara River. The scene is historically accurate; the mule drover is leading the tow-mules down the towpath while a second set of mules takes a break on the boat. The boat captain has his family on board as they travel. The image came in the top 5% of 4,668 entries. The title of this post comes from an old canal song that was sung as they worked along the canal.

Ooh... the ER-I-EE was risin'
And the gin was gettin' low
And I scarcely think
We'll get a little drink
'Til we get to Buffalo
'Til we get to Buffalo
